GraalVM now ships innovation releases (25.1–25.4) in graalvm/graalvm-ce-builds under graal-* tags. The assets are named like graalvm-community-jdk-25i4-25.0.4.1.1_linux-x64_bin.tar.gz. The last jdk-* tag is jdk-25.0.2.
setup-java (v6.1.0) can't install these:
GRAALVM_COMMUNITY_VERSION_PATTERN (/^\d+(?:\.\d+)*$/) rejects 25i4-25.0.4.1.1, so innovation assets never show up as available versions.
In .tool-versions, mise names these graalvm-community-innovation-25.0.4.1.1. setup-java maps the prefix to graalvm-community but shortens the version to 25.0.4. That loses the extra components that tell builds apart (for example 25i2-25.0.4 vs 25i4-25.0.4.1.1).
Expected:java graalvm-community-innovation-25.0.4.1.1 in .tool-versions, or an equivalent java-version, installs the matching innovation build.
Yes, @brunoborges. Thanks. That will very probably work. Just thought you might want to also support the innovation releases directly. Hence the issue - but it's not strictly needed for my usecase. I can use setup-graalvm or mise-action instead
Activity
build: switch to GraalVM 25.4 innovation line
build: switch to GraalVM 25.4 innovation line
fix: leave GraalVM innovation pins to the repository

Hi @ArloL,
Thank you for creating this feature request. We will investigate it and provide feedback as soon as we have some updates.

Hi @ArloL is there any other way you can install these binaries with
setup-java?ArloL commentedon Nov 5, 2026
Not really. I am trying to migrate to jdx/mise-action at the moment to have local and CI use similiar tool setup paths.

This action has the ability to install any jdk given a jdk installation file. Have you tried that?
